  26. GENERAL NOTES - RELEASE 3.0
  27.  
  28.    The key features of Indeo(TM) Video Technology release 3.0 are:  
  29.  
  30.      *  Video playback is two times faster than in release 2.11.  
  31.  
  32.      *  Picture quality and color reproduction are dramatically improved. 
  33.  
  34.      *  Files created by earlier versions of Indeo Video Technology can be
  35.         played back using release 3.0.
  36.  
  37.      *  The new compression algorithm lets you control the quality or data
  38.         rate of the captured video, giving you more control over the
  39.         appearance of the resulting video file.
  40.  
  41.      *  There is built in support for PAL video.  
  42.  
  43.      *  A new video image size, 240x180, is available.  You can capture
  44.         video in this new size at frame rates of up to 15fps.

  46. KNOWN OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS OF INDEO(TM) VIDEO TECHNOLOGY RELEASE 3.0
  47.  
  48.    The known operating characteristics of Indeo Video Technology release
  49.         3.0 are listed below.  
  50.  
  51.    *    Frames are dropped when capturing 320x240 or 240x180 images at
  52.         frame rates greater than 15fps.  
  53.  
  54.    *    In systems with disk drives that have a transfer rate of less than
  55.         1.4 Mbytes/sec, the Intel Smart Video Recorder may randomly drop
  56.         frames.
  57.  
  58.    *    The current Intel Smart Video Recorder capture driver and software
  59.         encoder support only Key Frames.  Therefore, regardless of the key
  60.         frame interval setting, only key frames will be captured.  
  61.  
  62.    *    The overlay option in VidCap is not supported.
  63.  
  64.    *    If audio playback is out of synch with the video, try:
  65.  
  66.         * playing video from Media Player and configuring playback [select
  67.         Device/Configure...] to "skip video frames if behind",
  68.  
  69.         * removing any TSRs (Terminate Stay Resident programs).
  70.  
  71.    *    VidEdit does not allow you to create a file with an image
  72.         resolution greater than 320x240.
  73.  
  74.    *    Data rates less than 300KB may not be achieved with a Quality
  75.         setting of 100%. To achieve lower data rates, lower the Quality
  76.         setting. A quality setting of 80% offers a good trade-off.
  77.  
  78.    *    Data rates of 150KB cannot be achieved.  This problem will be
  79.         resolved when the "super compressor" becomes available.
  80.  
  81.    *    If you have an ATI Mach 32 graphics board you may need to set the
  82.         "Device Bitmaps" to OFF to utilize the correct palette.
